Realizations

Since the last post, I have stopped* my antibiotics of Minocyclin twice a day, 50mg for 2 weeks. I took it for a total of 2 weeks and decided to stop because it was not effective. That, and antibiotics just suck and are unecessary. I have just come to terms with perioral dermatitis being a life long thing.

Went back to the herb specialist, and she strictly advocated me to change my diet at least for 6 months. I am not that kind of person – food is my life! Food and red wine are two things that make me happiest!

She tells me to avoid eating the following foods:

  • shellfish
  • fried foods
  • red wine/alcohol of any sort – but red wine does increase the redness so I’ll just drink white
  • red meat
  • seafood in general
  • dairy
  • eggs
  • cheese

This list goes on and on. While I am back on drinking chinese medicine for the next two weeks, I will do my best to change my diet and see if there are any changes.

Today is my Day 1. Had toast and avocado this morning with prosciutto (processed meats are a no-no… UGH THIS IS GOING TO BE SO MOFO HARD), green tea throughout the day, and shrimp dumplings and a spring roll for lunch. I am going to force myself to order a salad for dinner tonight and refrain from alcohol to  the best of my abilities. Wish me luck, and I wish whoever’s reading this good luck. You’re clearly on my site to find some solace in treating your PD. Unfortunately, there are no miracle cures 😦 and PD persists once you get it. Just gotta learn your skin and find different ways to treat it when there’s an outbreak.

Also, I’m terribly scared of home remedies like coconut oil, baking soda and lemon, apple cider vinegar, etc. Based on what I’ve been reading on the internet, PD is a result of something to do with yeast? And if it is, then a certain remedy will help. If it’s bacterial, then something like anti-fungal foot creams (lol) would help. Does anyone have an answer to this question?

I also plan on buying and trying out Sebamed Clear Face gel. I googled “Seba med perioral dermatitis” because I remember when I used to have bad reactions on my face (sensitive to sun exposure, coupled with salty ocean water = puffy, red, itchy, dry, scaley face for lil ol’ me), Seba med was the only brand that made my skin look and feel better. And mind you, I used their baby body lotion which was obviously not targetted for a pre-teenager’s facial use. Their products have stuck around for a while and is trusted as it advocates skin’s proper pH balance. If you click the link, you’ll see that this product is recommended for people with acne, perioral dermatitis, rosacea. So crossing fingers, and hope it helps! http://dermatologia.leti.com/en/sebamed-clear-face-gel-oil-free_1613
